It's me, Krystil!

Why photography?

I feel at home behind the camera... Photography is my visual vocabulary. It is my tool for self-expression and I cannot fathom not shooting. As a bonus, I meet amazing people and forge wonderful friendships. Not bad, eh?! As to how I got started, I was shooting as a hobbyist for years to sate my artistic appetite, but it wasn’t enough and at some point I realized photography had an indelible hold on me. The rest is history, as they say.

As a mother, I’m acutely aware of how fleeting these years are. I want to show you how beautiful your family is. I'm humbled working with families that grant me the artistic liberty to capture their story through my lens.

A bit about me

I live in Orange County with my eternally optimistic husband, our ever-entertaining son, our sweet and spunky daughter and our two super shy rescue cats.

I love strong coffee (triple shot coffees people), sun flare and dry heat, hiking in the mountains, cardio exercise, a good live comedy show preferably with deadpan humor (Jim Gaffigan, you rock my world!) and people watching.

I’m also an adventurous soul. You can convince me to try any land or air activity once. I am, however, a lot more timid when it comes to water activities. Years ago, I made it my personal goal to never spend any of my vacation at home (Conde Nast Traveler is my porn). So as long as I can breathe and walk, I will explore the world around me. New stamps on my passport make me happy because I value the intangible over tangibles. My adventurousness extends into the food arena too: I haven’t yet come across a food I won't eat. And yes, I've eaten my fair share of offal. Whether I will or won't eat something comes down to quality and how it's prepared, not what it is.

My fam

These are my people. My husband and I met in 2006. We both have a different spin on how our love story got started, but the short version is we were in the same group of friends. That said, for me it’s not how you meet that matters, it’s what happens afterwards. And thus far, our journey has seen us live in 5 different cities in 2 different countries, bring two babes into the world and adopt two kitties.

In 2015 we welcomed our son, Seth. He is a monkey and a total ball of energy. Most days, I pray I can keep up with him. Earlier this year, we welcomed our daughter, Audrey. There’s not a whole lot to divulge about her yet – she still sleeps a lot. That said, everyone (and I mean everyone) comments on #thathair.

Wanna create some rad art together?!

I know your family is the most important thing in the world and you want amazing images.

Do you feel awkward looking at the camera and saying cheese all while posing like a stiff log? Most of my clients feel the same way. But fear not. A shoot with me is more like hanging out with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while who has a funny accent (Seattle born, Aussie raised, New York educated). At times I'll need to give some direction to keep the session running smoothly and other times, you'll find me simply hanging back and observing.

Why choose me?

Worried that your baby won’t stop dribbling? That’s cool, I carry wipes. Freaking out about a toddler tantrum? Ain’t nothin’ I haven’t dealt with before. Concerned that your kid will run off and dig holes in the ground? No probs, I’ll take a documentary approach to the session. Seriously, there’s nothing you can throw my way that I can’t handle. Relax... you’re in good hands.

Just be yourself and I'll take care of the rest

Straight up: I’m not here to tell you who to be or style your shoot. All you have to do is bring your family and I’ll bring my expertise and together we’ll make gorgeous wall-worthy art that showcases your unique family in all its beauty.
