Welcome... This is the space which I update the most so it'll typically show my most recent work. I share my latest Orange County family photo sessions and occasionally some personal work, including my family, who are at the very heart of my art.
So take a browse and contact me if you'd like to create some art together.
Corona del Mar State Beach is a fairly popular family beach in Newport Beach, Orange County. It runs half a mile long framed by rugged cliffs and a rock jetty that forms the east entrance to Newport Harbor. It has its own feel and is set among flower-named residential streets. All beaches in Orange County are gorgeous, but Big Corona looks like it came right off of a movie set, which isn’t entirely fanciful given that it featured in Gilligan’s Island
I’m stoked to share my first photo session in sunny Southern California. One of the things I was most excited about when I knew we were moving here is the light. You can totally overdose on the beautiful golden light out here. Back on the East Coast, there was light to be sure, but I always had to search so hard for it. Light is in abundant supply here in Cali
Deciding what to wear to a maternity photo session can sometimes be stressful. You want to look beautiful, as you know you’ll be looking back on these photos for decades to come, but you may (or may not!) be feeling anything but beautiful. If you’re searching for the perfect outfit to wear for wall-worthy photos for your upcoming maternity photo session, here are my top 3 tips to make sure you nail it
As a family photographer, I am often asked what age is best to schedule a newborn photo session. There's no right age for everyone as it depends on a couple of personal factors, particularly what style of photography you want for your newborn photo shoot. All babies and their temperaments are different, and one baby may be easier going than another regardless of age. But generally speaking, the age of your new babe will be insightful as to what sort of photos we can easily capture together
This photo shoot was the last session I scheduled before leaving the busy East Coast of the USA for the sunny shores of Orange County, and I had a blast. What's the saying, something about going out with a bang?! Mama J and I got on very well. We had a few email exchanges prior to our session. What to wear is a big decision and given they are expecting a sweet baby boy, a light blue dress seemed to fit the occasion perfectly. Because these two call Long Island home, they wanted to head into the big smoke for their maternity photo session
It's been about a month since we left the East Coast for the sunny shores of Southern California, more specifically, Orange County. Our second born was about 6 weeks old when we left. Not the ideal time to move, but is there ever an ideal time to move when you have kiddos?
Choosing a location for your family photos is an important decision. As the years progress, these are the images that you will look back on that hold your family history. Over a series of upcoming blogposts, I will be discussing great outdoor locations for family photos in Orange County California. While there are a number of factors to consider when thinking about your family photo session, only one word comes to mind: location, location, location!
I love it when clients bring their own personality and spunk to a session, and that’s definitely how this couple rolls. First things first though, it is obvious that these two want a well-documented family life. They were determined to get professional images so they could announce their pregnancy to their loved ones in their own style. When I met mama-to-be L, she blew me away with her sweet words. She said she had been looking for a family photographer all day and got lots of referrals from her friends, but it wasn’t until she stumbled across my site that she knew she’d found her photo gal. Such a huge compliment, right?!
So I was pretty excited to meet this expecting couple. As is often the way, I got an email from Mama M inquiring about a maternity session and it was clear to me that she wasn’t shopping around for a photographer. Some people are really drawn to your art, and those are the folks you generally get on best with, and that is exactly who this couple is. Mama M was needlessly complimentary about my images in her exchanges with me, but the story behind her wanting a maternity photo session resonated with me on a personal level
Those of you who follow my work know that I often speak about my families with a lot of joy, and this family is no exception. But it is rare that I am as sentimental about a family session as much as I am about this one, and there’s good reason for my sentimentality. A couple of years ago when I started my family photography business, this family was one of the first to allow me into their their NYC abode. I was invited into their home to capture their youngest kiddo when she was just a wee newborn
Having a baby is arguably the most important milestone in an adult's life. One of the best things about this line of work, is being lucky enough to capture memories of this transition to parenthood for new parents. I won't lie... This maternity session was easily my most anticipated photo session this year. The session was booked several months ago when mom and dad had only just learned they were expecting because they were just so excited about becoming parents and getting document this special time in their lives
I really couldn’t be happier to share this sweet newborn session with you all. It’s probably no secret to anyone in the country that this has been one of the coldest NYC winters in years. But I couldn't think of anything better to do this winter than welcome the pitter-patter of tiny baby feet - curling up with newborn life is the perfect antidote to the frigid winter temperatures, and that’s exactly what this lovely family has been doing
Turning 1 is such an important milestone for a baby and for the baby’s parents, and there’s no better time to capture some family moments than at the end of baby’s first year. And that’s just what I was called to do for this lovely Upper West Side family
Having a baby is one of the most important days in a new parent’s life. Fresh 48 photography is a special session for those new families who want the first few hours of their newborn’s life captured without having the entire birth documented. Known as a “Fresh 48” session, this is a perfect way to capture the brand newness of a newborn in the hospital within the first 48 hours of birth – these lifestyle sessions are perfect for remembering that first day forever
This session was a great way to finish off the year. It’s always enjoyable for me to meet couples who are travelling to New York, like this energetic and good looking due who hail from Florida, because I get to hang out with them at some of NYC’s best locations. Lucky we scheduled the session when we did because not long after our session, the temps turned arctic and they still haven’t bounced back
If you ask me, people don’t do couples shoots often enough. So I am always delighted when I get to shoot a couples session. This lovely duo, who call Oklahoma home, came to NYC for a quick vacation and, out of the millions of photographers in NYC, asked me to document their love. I was touched to learn that this is the first time they have had professional photos together
'Tis the season for vacation and travel. You could say New York City has its good points in any season, but the holiday season in December is pretty spectacular - the lights, the shows, the festivities - the chaotic pace doesn't lessen just because the temps drop. This lovely family, visiting from Alabama, decided to visit NYC for their vacation, and although these images may appear as though they were taken on a beautiful fall day, I assure you it was coldy, cold, cold outside
It’s really wonderful getting to meet adventurous families. And this family fits right into that category. I was lucky enough to be asked to document a few memories during their annual vacation to New York from Luxembourg – they visit each year right around this time of year. Despite the weather being on the chilly side, we had a hoot. Both mom and dad know their way around town having both lived in New York City for about 10 years some time ago. I think this family epitomizes all that you want from a great family session
I love, love, loved my session with this sweet family of 3 in Midtown Manhattan. For one thing, this sweet little 8 week old was about as serene as newborn babies come. I put it down to his sweet loving nature, which he no doubt inherited from his sweet and easygoing parents. But I also think waiting to have newborn photos until your babe is a few weeks older also has something to do with it
One of the great things about being an NYC family photographer is seeing all the creative ways in which we use our apartment spaces. While one of the most common statements I hear from clients is that they believe their apartment is too small or not pretty enough for a shoot, I’ve always found a way to make it work. But that clearly wasn’t the case with this session. This session proves that when you venture just outside of NYC, you get amazing spaces without the amazing rents
I never tire of stepping into homes with new lives in them. There’s something about a newborn session with a family’s first child – everything is so new, so raw and so beautifully precious. I am constantly amazed at how easy first-time parents make it look when I meet them. Take this couple for instance
I was lucky enough to meet this charismatic duo on their recent trip to NYC from one of my favorite states, Colorado. They reached out before their trip as they're expecting and were keen to beautifully document this special period of their lives. I couldn't have been happier. Although they frequent NYC for business several times a year, this trip was all about fun on their babymoon
I'm rarely stuck for words for my blog posts, but this session left me a little speechless. You can always hope that you are going to have clients as lovely as this family, but it's so wonderful when it actually happens. I couldn't have stepped into a warmer more caring home, or a home on a more greener and peaceful street. I was greeted by the family's furry friend who packs a punch for his size and clearly has the status of child, rather than pet, in the family
While Australia is a small country in terms of population, we certainly do get out and about. Almost every session I've had recently has been with Aussies living in New York City or Aussies visiting New York City. I was lucky enough to meet this family on their recent travels to The Big Apple all the way from Perth, Western Australia
I just finished writing a blog post last week about how easily I bump into Aussies in NYC (see that blog post here) and I again found myself meeting another Aussie at this session. This family epitomizes so much of a New York family – they’re a true blend of different parts of the world - a Swiss dad, an Aussie mom (or mum may be more appropriate here) and their American born daughter. And what a sweet family of three they are
I've been lucky enough to know this mom since our kiddos were newborns. We live close by and I remember looking around for activities to do with my newborn when I was on maternity leave and finding her in that search. Once we got talking, we quickly learned we had shared backgrounds, both having ventured to New York City from our prior lives in the Land Down Under.
One of the privileges of being an NYC family and newborn photographer is that I get to see families grow. You probably remember this family from the session we did back when Baby K was a wee newborn, so you can imagine how excited I was to do a 3 month session. I wrote in my prior blogpost how much this mom and dad care about their family photos, and this just proves how right I was
The summer here in NYC has been beautiful this year. It's often said that there are two seasons in this city - freezing cold or sickeningly humid. However, I can count the number of truly humid days we've had on two hands. For that reason, the weather has been great and we've had no excuse not to get out and enjoy it when time permits
One thing you never tire of in this line of work is seeing the love that different families have. This session was a special occasion, as this cute little guy had just turned 1 and his parents, who used to be New York residents, are here for the summer. They chose the Brooklyn Bridge Park area for our session
I exchanged a couple of emails with this mom when she was midway through her pregnancy some months ago. Originally the session was conceived as maybe a gift (what else do you get an expecting mom who already has everything from baby number one?!) but then I was delighted to receive an email from her wonderfully caring husband, who really wanted to make sure his wife had her session with me, and arranged it himself. I was tickled pink
