About the location: Top of the World, Laguna Beach, California
Top of the World Laguna Beach is a community park located in Laguna Beach, California. The park's official name is Alta Laguna Park, but it is referred to as Top of the World. It is located at the north end of Alta Laguna Blvd. I wanted a high vantage point for golden hour and this scenic lookout point offers some of the best views in Laguna Beach. Needless to say, this location didn’t disappoint. I think it's a great location for family photoshoots because there is a bathroom and a playground at the car park (so kids can burn off some of their energy before we start) and you don't have to wander more than 5 or 10 minutes to find your own part of the park which makes you feel like you're the only ones there - it is incredible.
About this family
I’m stoked to share my first photo session in sunny Southern California. One of the things I was most excited about when I knew we were moving here is the light. You can totally overdose on the beautiful golden light out here. Back on the East Coast, there was light to be sure, but I always had to search so hard for it. Light is in abundant supply here in Cali.
When we moved here, I knew I’d make great friends at some point but making friends happens organically. It’s not something that happens on a timeline or when you necessarily want it to. So you can image my surprise that I was lucky enough to meet gorgeous Mama A and her men not more than a couple of weeks after arriving. We met on a playdate through a mutual friend and we learned that our little boys were born on the same day. Pretty crazy that we were giving birth about 3 years ago on the same day on opposite sides of the country. And our little guys got on pretty well too. We actually almost got them confused because they both have blonde hair and were wearing the same blue colored shirts when we met. Fast forward a few weeks and I learned that we also share a love of photography and have similar parenting styles. How lucky I am to have met someone like this as early on as I have?!
The only thing more beautiful than the location is this pretty family playing in it. These photos are but a small thankyou to this wonderful mom for welcoming me into her heart and her life. She is one of the most genuine, kind and down-to-earth women I have every met and I feel lucky to count her as a friend. To the rest of you, feel free to drool over this gorgeous sunset and family!
