The mother and daughter in this blogpost are very special to me. In 2018, my family and I packed up our belongings and moved to sunny Southern California. I went trolling through local Instagram hashtags, as one does, in order to find the local artistic talent, and there was beautiful Christina and her incredible family film images. But that wasn't what made me reach out to her: I read a bit more about her story and it turns out we had more than photography in common. She too was excited about leaving a rainy cold city (Seattle) and heading for an outdoor life of sunshine almost everyday. She also came from Seattle (the city where I was born). So it just felt like we had to meet in person. I promptly sent an email to her, half expecting to never hear back, but she sent me the nicest, warmest response I think I ever received from a fellow photographer. Long story short, we've had a number of playdates together: they mostly center around water and pools and stuffing our faces full of food and getting so engrossed in conversation that we forget the time and then run late for whatever next commitment we have. She also took my family photos when my little gal turned 6 months old, which was deeply personal to me.
Against this backdrop, you can imagine how sad I was to learn that she was leaving the sunny shores of Orange County. I thought I would be here a little bit longer before saying any goodbyes. But as a different friend said to me recently, I traded one rat race for another (NYC for OC). There's no real way to mince words: Orange County is expensive and busy, so I guess it's no surprise that people are constantly leaving in search of quieter and more affordable places to live. Anyway, when I found out she was leaving I knew we had to have one last hang, and couldn't resist bringing my camera to document the occasion.
If you're located in Northern California and somewhere near San Fransisco, then you are in luck as Christina Judd is bringing her film photo magic to you. To my dear friend Christina: I will miss you greatly and I wish you four the very best for this exciting new chapter you're embarking upon.
